"The Dawn of the Real Islam"

So says Abu Ayman, a senior leader of Islamic Jihad in the northern West Bank town of Jenin, as he gloated about details in the report from the Iraq Study Group. Islamic Jihad is the group which has been responsible for suicide bombings within Israel over the past two years. More from Abu Ayman:
"The report proves that this is the era of Islam and of jihad..."(With the Iraq Study Group report), the Americans came to the conclusion that Islam is the new giant of the world and it would be clever to reduce hostilities with this giant. In the Koran the principle of the rotation is clear and according to this principle the end of the Americans and of all non-believers is getting closer."
And this from Abu Abdullah, leader of Hamas's military wing:
"It is not just a simple victory. It is a great one. The big superpower of the world is defeated by a small group of mujahedeen (fighters)....

"It is no doubt that Allah and his angels were fighting with them (insurgents) against the Americans. It is a sign to all those who keep saying that America, Israel and the West in general cannot be defeated on the ground so let us negotiate with them."
According to Abu Abdullah, after the United States withdraws from Iraq,
"America must understand that with anti-American governments in Latin America and with Islam growing and reinforcing, including in the US itself, the next step would be a total defeat on their (American) land, not a relative one like they are facing in Iraq."
Bluff and bluster? Before 9/11, we thought that Osama bin Laden's threats were bluff and bluster.

I'd take them at their word. Whether or not they succeed is irrelevant; the fact that they will try is a check you can cash.

More bluster then truth but failure in Iraq will only motivate Jihadist here in America...such as CAIR and the patrons of Iran...Hamas and Hezbollah.
I don't see any easy answers. We could exploit the Sunni/Shi'ite division but a greater war could destabilize the entire region and the world economy.

Such motivation is going to be a serious problem, IMO, whether "lone jihadists" start up or whether organized jihadists work their evil.

We're caught in a real conundrum with regard to the Middle East. As you said, no easy solutions.

If they're going to have their say, they'd better get a jump-start on it.

Brooke,
Yes, they are going to try, in the name of the will of Allah.

The Islamic revival is still in the growing phase and that will continue despite anything we do. Sure, decisive and brutal defeat would have set them back but I don’t think Americans are ready to back a full fight and a half fight is always costly. But even if we buy time by judiciously picking our fights so that we win and leave in short order, the movement has indigenous causes that we don’t control. There is civil war in the Sudan and Somalia. There’s ethnic cleansing of Buddhists in southern Thailand. Pakistan is sill in a precarious state. Iran wants a second holocaust. Mubarak may not last long and the Egyptian brotherhood is in the wings. Islam is going to be a threat for sometime.

Americans have to learn about the enemy so that we fight more effectively. The 1st thing to do is stop helping our enemy.

Yeah, it would really help if people on our own side stopped emboldening the enemies of America.

Unfortunately ducky, our own soldiers were undercut by people such as Pelosi and Murtha. Aided by the media who one-sidedly broadcasted failures to achieve a political defeat for Bush, the end was pretty much inevitable.
Was there poor planning?
Undoubtedly.
Poor intelligence?
Undoubtedly.
What success possible?
Also undoubtedly.
I'm amazed by how many Americans revel at the prospect of a defeat.

You can sense that as they gloat at the prospect of chaos in Iraq and at the vision of jihadi cheering in the streets.

The left is actually cheering for the enemy … or smiling in their typical smug manner.

I don’t think that’s going to happen unless the oil runs out or chaos stops the oil from flowing for a long time. Only a sustained rise in oil prices will spur alternatives. Economic law is hard to get around.

Great site!

If you have a moment, please visit my blog and check out my coverage of the brave protestors in:
Crash of the Lynne Stewart 'Gloat Party'

We crashed Lynne Stewart's 'GLOAT PARTY' last night at the Judson Memorial Church downtown across from Washington Square Park. It was a rousing affair to say the least and it came as a complete surprise to the Lynne Stewart folks who were throwing her a celebration called 'Ode to Joy and Struggle' thanking everyone for their support over the 4 years during her trial and also to 'unite for the struggle ahead'. 'Struggle' they say? As in 'Mein Kampf' maybe? As in 'jihad' too perhaps..?

Let me run this by everyone and see if it rings true:

First some background. Middle East experts friendly to the administration (Daniel Pipes, Bernard Lewis, and Martin Kramer) cautioned Bush that following the invasion with a program for democracy is not wise given Arab culture and history. Now many others on the right like Krauthammer are questioning whether the Iraqis has the right stuff for a liberal democracy. One holdout is the left-winger Peter Beinart at the New Republic.

My prediction is that by 2008 Republicans will declare the Arab Muslims hopeless but the Democrats will flip-flop to a “humanitarian” save-Iraq policy that commits us for another 8 years. They’ll call it “our Darfur.” Sounds plausible?

Na-a-a-h. This is the Left's "Mission Accomplished" (cut-and-run) moment. The Iraqi's have already been deemed hopeless by the ISG Report, and the grim reaper now has 3-4 million future innocent Sunni souls to collect, courtesy of ducky, Reid, Pelosi, & Murtha. Like the Indochinese after Vietnam, they're all now martyr's to the cause of moral "humanism". Just "ice" prevails over Just "is". The hot dish of Just-is has cooled to Just-ice. The Moqtada will first re-heat it, then serve it up cold...

He does, after all, have millions of innocent Shi'a lives to avenge... his father's... his brother's. Mercy is not something the former Ba'athists will now receive. Reconciliation? LOL!

Maybe. But some form of cut-and-run will still happen. The left won't be satisfied otherwise.

The Islamic revival is still in the growing phase and that will continue despite anything we do.

Appeasement is seen by most Muslims (who yearn for the caliphate, as unreasonable as it is) as fulfilling the will of Allah, and a strong military stand on the part of the West will serve to unite Muslims even further as such as stand feels into their mindset of victimology. That victimology can be relieved (in their own eyes) only by more diligent devotion to the will of Allah. It's a vicious circle, and the West has played into their hands by not fighting a decisive war from the get-go.

The left is actually cheering for the enemy … or smiling in their typical smug manner.

Back when David Horowitz was a Commie writing the Leftist "Ramparts" magazine, one of his cover lines was, "Alienation is when your country is at war and you want the other side to win."

Horowitz came to his senses. The vast majority of the Left never did. And they're the same people we're hearing from today.

Anonymous,
Thank you for stopping by.

On June 15, 2007, on The Gathering Storm Radio Show, I interviewed David Yerushalmi of the Mapping Shari'a Project. The interview begins a quarter past the hour.

I also did a post devoted only to the project. You can find details at my new site.

Muslims who desire to live under shari'a law should go to an Islamic nation instead of trying to force such a code into and onto Western civilization. After all, shari'a law and Western law are incompatible, particularly because shari'a law's intention is to establish an Islamic theocracy.
